**JAPAN TRAVEL UPDATE**
All personnel traveling into Japan require a negative COVID-19 test within three days of travel, regardless of vaccination status, both commercial and military air.
For those unable to acquire a COVID test due to lack of availability, an exception to policy memo signed by the first O-6 in one's chain of command is needed to travel. Upon return, a restriction to domicile will be conducted until in receipt of a negative COVID test.

U.S. Forces Japan extends Japan-wide public health emergency
The commander of U.S. Forces Japan has extended the Public Health Emergency (PHE) for Japan in accordance with DoD Instruction (DoDI) 6200.03, “Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) Within the DoD.” The PHE will automatically terminate on 25 July 2022, unless it is renewed and republished or sooner terminated by the commander. This order supersedes the previous PHE declaration for Japan issued on 2 June 2022.
Significant PHE Items
- USFJ will no longer require pre-departure testing for SOFA members on flights bound for the US.
- If travelers receive a negative molecular test (such as PCR) within 72 hours of travel to Japan, no arrival test or ROM is required regardless of vaccination status. If the pre-travel test is not molecular (including antigen), the current arrival testing and ROM policies (depending on vaccination status) will apply.

The following includes information for all ground transportation procedures upon arrival into Japan to reach your final destination.

Narita is the first pick up location at approximately 2000. Representative from the bus company will be in the vicinity of the DOD Desk Counter Terminal 1 North Wing with a welcome sign. Bus will then proceed to Haneda (after picking everyone up in Narita) airport at Terminal 3, on the second floor.
Bus is equipped with a toilet. There is WIFI, but no outlets for charging devices. Recommend a light jacket/blanket/pillow for the ride. ETA to Sasebo is 18 hours. Bus will only stop for required change of drivers and ventilation as required by the Government of Japan. Bus will not stop for food services. Recommend purchasing snacks/food/drinks prior to boarding bus.
Members with orders and under their commands have priority and are required to work through their command sponsors to obtain seats. This information is not available on any particular website as the buses are contracted on behalf of SRF and CTF-76. These Commands manage usage and seat assignment using submission of the attached form to their coordinators.
Narita and Haneda International Airport Arrivals:
For passengers arriving in Tokyo click link for authorized ROM locations, then go to chosen ROM location link for specific travel guidance to that location.
For example, if you choose Atsugi as your ROM location, click on the link under Atsugi for available ground transportation to Atsugi. Two ways to choose
your ROM location if flying into Tokyo. First, choose a location with ground transportation that supports your arrival time into Tokyo, then make hotel or
billeting reservations to support your stay. Second, choose your ROM location make hotel or billeting reservations then make flight reservations that will
allow you to arrive with enough time to catch the ground transportation that supports that specific location.
Kansai Osaka International Airport Arrivals:
Shuttle bus from Kansai International Airport to MCAS Iwakuni: Departs from Terminal 1 every Sunday at 9pm. For delays, call 090-9140-0640 immediately.
DMO Bus Reservation Request Form:

DMO has the ability to arrange Bus Services for Official Travel to various points throughout mainland Japan if Motor Transportation are not able to provide
those services. It is essential for DMO to receive bus service request with the number of passengers, date, and time, along with the boarding and off-
boarding points via e-mail. Units must also provide the cost appropriation data with the request. DMO will then provide the confirmation to the unit once
services have been arranged. Ensure that you provide DMO the request at least (10) business days before estimated departure.
