The 2022 JEGS were promulgated in accordance with bilaterally agreed timelines following established procedures to reconcile USG mandated environmental requirements with applicable international agreements and applicable host-nation environmental standards, adopting the more protective standard. Completed submissions from GOJ were evaluated as part of the regular amendment cycle. As part of the evaluation process, USFJ incorporated specific Japanese environmental requirements into the 2022 JEGS per bilateral agreement, in order to ensure that any changes and additions are consistent with the USG policy of adoption of the more protective standard and the environmental goals of both of our countries.
