U.S. Forces Japan Change of Command Ceremony Announced

YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan – General (select) Edward A. Rice Jr., commander of U.S. Forces, Japan, and Fifth Air Force, will relinquish his command to Lt. Gen. (select) Burton M. Field in a Change of Command ceremony scheduled to take place here October 25.

Field is currently serving as the Senior Advisor to the U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan/Pakistan, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. Following the change of command, Rice will go on to assume duties as Commander, Air Education and Training Command, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas. The AETC change of command date is still to be determined.

The U.S. Senate has confirmed Rice, for promotion to the rank of General and Field for appointment to the rank of Lieutenant General. Rice has been in command of U.S. Forces, Japan and 5th Air Force since February 2008.
