U.S. Forces, Japan, and 5th Air Force change of command postponed

UNRELEASED | June 18, 2012

YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan – The U.S. Forces, Japan, and 5th Air Force change of command has been postponed and will take place at a later date.

Due to on-going discussions between U.S. Air Force senior leaders and members of Congress about force posture decisions in Alaska, the U.S. Air Force has decided to temporarily defer the movement of key leaders in the Pacific, pending the outcome of these discussions.

Lt. Gen. Burton Field has already been confirmed to be the next Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, Plans and Requirements for the Air Force, and will remain in his position here until the confirmation process is complete for Lt. Gen. Herbert J. Carlisle. Lt. Gen. Carlisle has been nominated to be the next Commander of Headquarters Pacific Air Forces. Maj. Gen. Sam Angelella is still scheduled to replace Lt. Gen. Field as the Commander of USFJ and 5th Air Force.

A new date for the change of command has not been confirmed at this time. New details will be released as they become available.

Questions regarding the USFJ and 5th AF change of command should be directed to the USFJ Public Affairs Office, usfj_media@usfj.mil.
