USFJ Statement on GOJ Updated Security Documents

22-014 | Dec. 18, 2022

U.S. Forces Japan welcomes Japan's recently updated key strategic planning documents. The elevated prioritization of national security initiatives highlights the growing importance of our iron-clad Alliance to address an increasingly complex and severe security environment.

"Our Allies and partners remain an asymmetric advantage when it comes to credible deterrence, maintaining peace, and resisting attempts by some nations to disregard international norms," said Lt Gen Ricky Rupp, commander, U.S. Forces Japan. "The process of revising these important documents underscores Japan's commitment to security and peaceful prosperity in the region. Bottom line, we are stronger together and our alliance has never been more consequential to maintaining and protecting the peace," he said.

U.S. Force Japan looks forward to playing an important role in Japan's vision for advancing its national security and we're eager to explore new opportunities to deepen our shared commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.
