U.S. Forces Japan Senior Enlisted Leader

 

Chief Master Sergeant Leon Calloway is the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for United States Forces Japan. As the senior enlisted leader, he is responsible to the Commander on matters concerning the combat readiness and quality of life of 66,000 joint military and Department of Defense civilian personnel, and 45,000 dependents. He is a key advisor to the Commander for managing bilateral security issues, overseeing joint and bilateral exercises, administering the Status of Forces Agreement. Through engagements with the enlisted force, he is the communications link between the commander and the enlisted community. He ensures the commander’s policies and intent are known and understood and advises the commander of important enlisted force issues and concerns. He also provides critical interface with the senior enlisted leadership of the Japan Self-Defense Force, serving to foster better understanding and improved readiness of our allied partners.

Chief Calloway enlisted in the Air Force in September 1996. In January 1997, he graduated from the Electrical Systems Specialist Course at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. He has served in various Civil Engineer leadership positions, as well as Additional Duty First Sergeant, Squadron Training Manager and Civil Engineer Deployment Manager. Prior to his current assignment, Chief Calloway served a duel-hatted role as Command Chief Master Sergeant for Air Force District of Washington and 320th Air Expeditionary Wing. He has deployed to various locations in direct support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, NEW DAWN and Joint Task Force HORN OF AFRICA.
